What to Expect in Our Dental Assisting Program

Thinking about becoming a dental assistant? Our 10-week program at Dental Staff School of Tennessee (DSSTN) is designed to get you trained, confident, and career-ready, without dragging it out for months.

Here’s a quick look at what you can expect.

One Day a Week, In-Person

You’ll attend class one day per week for 10 weeks, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. It’s a full day, but it’s structured and efficient—perfect for working adults, parents, or anyone ready to make a change.

All training is done in person at one of our fully equipped dental training centers.

Real Hands-On Training

From day one, you’ll be in the clinic learning by doing—not just watching. Here are just a few of the hands-on skills you’ll master:

  • Sterilization & Infection Control
  • Taking Impressions & Pouring/Trimming Models
  • Mirror & Explorer Use
  • Fabricating Provisional Crowns
  • Moisture Control Techniques (like suction, cotton rolls, and dental dam)
  • Instrument Identification & Passing
  • Taking X-rays – including periapical, bitewings, and panoramic

We also cover charting, tray setup, patient communication, and basics of front office workflow.

Supportive, Experienced Instructors

Our instructors are licensed professionals who bring real-world experience to every class. They break down each skill, demonstrate it clearly, and give you time to practice with their support.

Our small class sizes mean you won’t get lost in the crowd.

Built for Career Success

This program is focused and practical. Everything we teach prepares you for working in a real dental practice. After 10 weeks, you’ll walk away with skills, confidence, and a clear path forward.

YES, our students really do get hired right after graduation. Many of our students land jobs within weeks (some even before the program ends).
